Atmanirbharata – A Women’s Empowerment Program

"When a woman is empowered enough to make her own life decisions, she takes the entire family along on the path of growth.”

Program Overview

The Atmanirbharata (Hindi word for "self-reliance”) program, as the name suggests, is an effort at equipping women to be independent and self-reliant through various inputs and training programs. The program is designed to address the issues of sustainability in the lives of single mothers & women who are vulnerable socially & economically.  Atmanirbharata focuses on improving the lives of women through various initiatives for their empowerment.

There are many supporting programs under Antmanirbharata like vocational training and income generating activities, Self-help groups, awareness and feeding programs. Through these activities, women are trained and supported to create an identity for themselves in our society and slowly but surely become more independent and self-sustained.

Community Outreach Program

HFCF has established various training and community centres that conduct vocational training specially designed to benefit women especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Courses such as fashion tailoring, cookery skills, computer courses, beautician courses, housekeeping, office management courses and making festive products such diyas, lamps, rakhis, chocolates and much more…

Self Help Group

Over the years, our beneficiaries have come together to form a ”Self-help group”. Initially, this initiative was supervised by HFCF but now the group is managing their operations independently. The Self-help group’s (SHG) key components are to help save money and support each other in case of emergency or need for a loan. Additionally, the SHG is also supporting the women to start their new enterprise or expand the existing one.

Counselling & Awareness sessions

The program provides a support system for families under our wings.  We counsel women and young girls on family matters, their health, woman & child rights, behavioural changes, and their legal rights. This support plays a major role in achieving the milestones of this empowerment project. We also link our women with different government schemes available to them, employment opportunities, connecting them to legal aid partners and support them with medical assistance and provide free breast and cervical cancer screening tests.

Feeding Program

Started in 2010, the feeding program provides struggling women and their family monthly food ration of wheat, rice, lentils, and sugar. As many of these women don’t get to earn a reasonable amount of money (average monthly income of our women Rs 3,500/Rs 5,000 – Less than 100$), we provide them monthly food grains to ease their burden and ensure that their children stay healthy. The policy of this program is that each woman should enrol them self in any of the livelihood training programs and attend the awareness program regularly. This ensures that they also help themselves in the process and aim for a better life while ensuring they don’t become dependent on us. HFCF provides food stability during the duration of the program.

Empower them to start small-scale businesses

Many women at the foundation often express a desire to start their own business. HFCF has helped 49 women to access initial business capital and also helped them develop their market through marketing and business knowledge and other promotions.
